E3 is officially dead. It was a long, slow death and it will be missed.
But, that ain't stoppin' these presentations, showcases, press conferences, developer directs, or whatever the hell else they're calling these things these days. It's a mess, so I'm here to keep track of it for you. I will keep this updated as best I can.
Here's what we know so far:
- HERE IS A LINK TO THE SHEET IF YOU WANT IT! - tinyurl.com/notE3time
If you don't like colorful charts, here's a basic text rundown:
Guerrilla Collective Online
This will be the fifth annual showcase from Guerrilla Collective, which highlights indie games. There will also be a Steam page highlighting all of the games. They will also be doing an in-person event on June 7.
- June 6
- 1:00 PM EDT / 10:00 AM PDT
- Twitch
Access-Ability Showcase
For the second year, the Access-Ability Showcase aims to highlight games that feature the best accessibility options as well as games made by disabled developers. Studios that are said to be participating include Whitethorn Digital, Playtonic, and Fiction Factory.
Summer Game Fest
Geoff Keighley's quest for world domination continues.
WORLD PREMIERE!!
Day of the Devs
Presented by Double Fine and iam8bit, the SGF edition of Day of the Devs will feature over a dozen indie games. Conveniently, this broadcast will begin immediately following Geoff Keighley's presentation on the same channel. So, you don't even have to do anything!
Wholesome Direct
The Wholesome Direct is typically an hour-long, rapid-fire showcase of dozens of indie games. Two years ago, it was co-hosted by Mary Kish. It usually directly follows the Guerrilla Collective show, but this year they're going it alone on Saturday morning.
Latin American Games Showcase
Presented by Devolver Digital and Raw Fury, the LAG Showcase is set to be over an hour of premieres and trailers from Latin American developers. Their last showcase had over 70 games, so expect this to be rapid fire. Their previous showcase was almost entirely in Spanish with some subtitles, so keep that in mind.
Women-Led Games Showcase
Presented by Devolver Digital and Wings, the WLG showcase focuses on studios that are led by women or consist of a majority of women. Their showcase in March was about 30 minutes and included games like Reigns and Kristala.
Future Games Show
For the last several years, GamesRadar has done a presentation that features mostly third-party games that aren't quite big enough to make it onto the bigger events. Usually a few cool things to find here.
Xbox Games Showcase / [REDACTED] Direct
You can cancel E3, but you can't kick Microsoft out of the Microsoft Peacock Theater. They're going to do a full showcase to show off all their new toys including Blizzard and Activision. Last year, the show was followed by a full hour presentation of Starfield. This year, they're teasing a deep dive into something else, which seems to be Call of Duty.
PC Gaming Show
Since 2015, PC Gamer has put on a sometimes funny sometimes cringe-worthy show hosted by Sean "Day[9]" Plott. If you're bad at math, that makes this the 10th one. Once again, it will immediately follow the Xbox presentations on Sunday.
Ubisoft Forward
What could Ubisoft have prepared this year? How many Assassin's Creed games can one company work on at any given moment? Will we ever be graced by the dancing panda bear ever again? Only time will tell.
Nintendo Direct
Nintendo has stated that there will be Direct in June, but haven't said exactly when. Will it be close to SGF? Maybe? It's Nintendo. Who the fuck knows?
All we do know is that there won't be any news about Switch 2. They claim it will be info on their software for the second half of 2024 only.
