One of my favorite games.
@chamurai: It took me three because it's been a long time since I played the game. It's weird that it never made it to backwards compatibility NOR did it ever get an Xbox One port, even though it got PS4 and Switch ports. That means that it's more accessible on Nintendo and PlayStation than Microsoft consoles.
Rare. There are a few games like Resident Evil Code Veronica that never got Xbox One ports because of backwards compatibility but many fewer that were Xbox games but never got any way to play on later hardware despite being playable on the other platforms.
@bigsocrates: That is weirdconsidering that Microsoft has done such a good job with the backwards compatability. I originally got it on Steam and then bought it again for PS4.I hope it keeps getting ported to newer generations.

Forgot to post my last game. My first guess streak broken at 3.
@chamurai: This one took me 3
In terms of that other game, which I won't name because you can go back and do prior days if you want, it's probably either that it was just a tough one to do backwards compatibility for from a technical perspective or whatever. It did get a slot in Summer of Arcade so it's decently prominent.
I think with backwards compatibility becoming more of an expected norm that we'll see fewer new gen ports of games like this that wouldn't really benefit much from a remaster. Take Scott Pilgrim, to name a game that isn't the one we're talking about. It got a remaster because it wasn't on the current platforms (and it was delisted due to an expired license.) But even though it released in 2021 it only got a PS4 version because what would you even add to a PS5 version? Some weird rumbly stuff? There's just nothing you can do to improve the PS4 version short of creating new content for the game (I guess network code can always be improved but it's fine as is.)
For the game we're talking about, what I'd really like to see is a spiritual successor. I didn't really care for the story from the game but another game that plays and looks similarly with a new cast could be great, and I think it would still make sense in today's marketplace.

I'm kind of curious about how everyone goes about with guessing the games. What are your strategies? Do you have any self-imposed rules such as not using Google to outright search? How long do you look at a screenshot before making an attempt or going to the next hint?
Personally I tend to try to look at the first screenshot and get a feel for the general time period the game looks to be made if I don't immediately recognize the art. I then usually make a wild guess I think the game might be. The second hit usually doesn't produce any better results and I don't look at this one too hard except to get the metacritic score which helps with the following console hints.
Third hint is where I usually start thinking a little harder since we will know whether a game is console exclusive or not. But PC only games are usually the most anxiety inducing as I wasn't much of a PC gamer for a big chunk of the mid 2000's onward. Hint 3 usually also gives a much bigger clue with the screenshot as well. Hints 4, 5 and 6 pretty much follow the same strategy.
I try not to look up anything and rely on my memory however I will give an exception in cases where I know the game but I don't know the name in that moment. For instance, I knew the Japanese name of a game but not the English one on a particular day.
This game guessing is real fun to me in that it's very interesting what little bits of a game are stored in our memory that a few pixels on a zoomed in screenshot will just spark something in the brain and the exhilaration after nailing that first hint answer. Or being able to guess a game you have never played nor seen any gameplay but were able to piece together the answer based on all the many hours of listening to the GB crew talk about it on the Bombcast or GOTY.
So yeah, wondering if anyone else has different strategies that will help with future questions.
@chamurai: I look at the screenshots and try to guess the game. I don't really spend too much time racking my brain because for me it's just not that serious. In terms of Googling, I only use it for when I know what game it is but can't quite remember the exact title. There's no point in playing this kind of thing if you're going to cheat, but it's also not like I'm going to intuit a title I can't remember from screenshots either.
I'm not super invested in getting it in the first try or whatever so I'd rather just get a few more clues than scrutinize a tiny piece of a screenshot to try and figure out exactly what generation its from.
@bigsocrates: Yeah I realize I'm probably taking this a bit too serious for a video game guessing game. I play a lot of puzzle games and this hits a certain part of my brain that's akin to solving a really tough Sudoku puzzle or a riddle on a Professor Layton game, and I'm currently in a phase of trying to solve puzzles in as fewer steps as I can.
@chamurai: I get that, it's just for me it's the kind of thing where you either know it or you don't. There are a few times where I've been like "oh I should have caught that" but mostly either I just don't know it from the tiny bit of screenshot or it's a situation where I thought it was one of a number of games and I guessed the wrong one first and if I go back I don't see any more of a clue as to what game it was from the first hint than I saw the first time.
I generally am getting it by the third hint and I'm fine with that. There have been a few I've gotten in one because of the iconic art style, and a few that have taken me more than three or not gotten at all because I didn't play or know the game, but a lot of the first clues seem to be intentionally not very useful, which is fine, but makes me not want to waste a lot of time staring at some tiny corner of a screenshot that isn't even representative of the game as a whole.
@chamurai: I don't know if you saw clue 6 or if you stop looking after your guess, but this clue 6 is the best thing they've ever posted.
@bigsocrates: That was pretty cool. It's cool that they also include animated hints every once in a while.
@bigsocrates: Because of the time zones I had already finished this one by the time you responded about the 6th hint and thought you were talking about this game at first. XD
Edit:
To avoid double posting I'm just gonna add this here.

@shindig: Yes. It was TIme Killers. It's always TIme Killers!
@cikame: Same. I actually haven't paid any attention to this game so I only got it from the text clues in the upper left hand. The screenshots did NOTHING for me.
399 was the first one I failed in awhile but I have never actually heard of the game, so I was drawing dead anyway, which makes me feel better.

Yeah I got the same result. Did get #397 in my first shot and I guess they changed the site a lil cuz the numbers changed colors for a bit after I made the guess.
@chamurai: Yeah. I also guessed "Manhunt" but that's not the name of this game at all!
I think this was by far the easiest one in awhile.
