Overview
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, not to be confused with the 2011 game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, is a modern-military first-person shooter developed by Sledgehammer Games (among several other studios) and published by Activision for the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 10, 2023.
The 20th main installment of the Call of Duty series, Modern Warfare III is the third game in the Modern Warfare reboot series (after the 2022 game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II) and follows Task Force 141 as they attempt to foil the plans of Russian Ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov and his forces.
Originally intended to be an expansion pack for Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III became a full-fledged release with a single-player campaign (featuring special open-world sandbox-style missions alongside traditional ones), series-standard multiplayer (including all sixteen maps from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2), and integration with the second Call of Duty: Warzone. Instead of a co-operative Special Ops mode, the game includes a "Zombies" mode (the first in the Modern Warfare sub-series) based on the Warzone's "DMZ" extraction-shooter mode. Certain content from Modern Warfare II, including Operators, weapons, and cosmetics, can be "carried forward" into this game.
