Bummer! You can do a light wash with watered down paint or even apply a white wax which will lighten it substantially. Good luck, please report back!

Any advice for lightening up the piece after the stain has dried but before the poly? I was a bit heavy handed on the stain and now it’s dark (after only one coat). Could I sand or do a tan paint wash on top of the stain?
