Name Changes

Sometimes pages get added to the site with misspellings or improper capitalization (i.e. PlayStation, not Playstation). And then there are times when pages get added to the site with names that aren't the most well-known names for that particular game/thing. And there are een other times when new concept pages have really dumb names. All of these are good reasons to ask for a name change.

Aliases

Aliases allow us to make it easier for everyone to find what they're looking for in the search bar. Whether it's just a popular abbreviation for a game (i.e. EverQuest = EQ) or an alternate name for a game (i.e. Rad Racer to Highway Star), aliases are important to how the site functions. If you have a suggestion for an alias that should be added to a particular page, this is the thread to request it.

How to Properly Make a Request

Only staff and moderators can change the title of pages on Giant Bomb. And, aside from concept pages, only staff and moderators can change aliases as well.

• Be Specific - Why exactly should we change a page's name? What good reason do you have for adding an alias? It may be obvious to you, but we may not be as familiar with the game/thing as you are.
• Links - Please, please provide links to the pages in question. Not only does it save us time, but it makes sure we're looking at the page that you're referring to in your post.

For those who are regular visitors of the D&C forum, we're rebooting some of these request threads and redoing the guides for them to coincide with the new site. Some of the stuff here was over 4 years old and entirely outdated. If you have any questions/suggestions for any of the information above, let us know.

I think this shows that separate threads for rename & alias like before may be better? (fewer headaches since people WILL forget to say it)

We'll see how it goes. The reason I combined them is that people were often not paying attention to which thread they were posting in before (i.e. putting alias requests int he renaming thread). Not sure which is better yet.

EDIT: Incidentally, the title of the concept page I linked to above titled "Cancelled Games" should probably be changed to "Canceled Games" with one "l". According to this that's the American way of spelling it, and I think - though I might be wrong - that the Giant Bomb wiki database is meant to be written entirely in American English. Nitpicky I know, but might as well point that out.

@Snail: I plan on going through the list and updating the titles on my next day off unless someone else gets to it first.

Incidentally, if you look at a more recent version of the ngram graph, the "canceled" spelling has been decreasing in popularity since 2000. I found that interesting. Both spellings are common in American English and preference probably depends largely on when you were born.

Search really can't deal with umlauts. Bertil Hörberg only shows up if you type in Bertil or the full thing (nothing comes up when entering just Hörberg) so please add aliases for Bertil Horberg, Bertil Hoerberg.

They are. You need to be able to find the name even if you don't have an ö on your keyboard.

@DeF: Sorry, I wasn't clear, the beta search finds him with both Horberg and Hörberg, so the aliases aren't necessary.

Aliases for accents are necessary now, but they can be removed when the new site actually goes live.

Fortunately, it will be super easy to remove aliases on the new site, as long as we're putting each alias on a new line (which we have been doing usually).

Can you add an alias to Rockman ×over? Something like "Rockman xover" or "Rockman Crossover"?

Currently the only way to search for it is to search for "Rockman over" as the "x" in the title is not a real x.

The SR-2M is just a version of the SR-2.

The company Stern Electronics, Inc. should be renamed to Stern Pinball and the old name should now be an alias.

Rename Super Robot Wars Z2: Saisei-hen to Dai-2-Ji Super Robot Taisen Z Saisei-hen while keeping the former name as an alias.

Rename Super Robot Wars Z2: Hakai-hen to Dai-2-Ji Super Robot Taisen Z Hakai-hen while keeping the former name as an alias (will also need to merge the two pages.)

Dai-2-Ji means "The Second Episode" or "The Second Entry", and more accurately reflects the title on the box.

Add: "Ratchet & Clank 3" as an Alias for Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, it was the European name.

Lilly Caul should be renamed just "Lilly". While Telltale may have originally intended to have the Lilly in the game be the same Lilly from the graphic novels, those plans changed with the release of "The Road to Woodbury" that gives Lilly Caul a completely different backstory than the Lilly in the game. Telltale removed all official references tying their Lilly to the comic series and they are now considered different people who happen to be named Lilly.

Cave Story -> "Cave Story+" should be added as alias since that's the name of the enhanced PC/Steam version.

Also "Cave Story 3D" should be deleted from Cave Story's aliases ORCave Story 3D page should be combined with the Cave Story page. I'm in favor of the latter.

Tasmanian Devil: Munching Madness needs the alias: "Taz: Munching Madness"
