Overview
Chomperman is a maze eat-'em-up game. The character of Chomperman was redesigned to be more of a spherical tiger-looking bloke, as opposed to the Pac-Man knock-off of the previous release. The ghosts were replaced by mushrooms, and many other things were remade and/or expanded upon, including additional levels.
Release history
The game was intended to be included on CC & SH Smash Hits, a compilation CD-ROM, but was not finished until one month later. It was released on CD-ROM individually, available at the time from Cafepress. The physical CD release is extremely rare, with under ten copies in circulation, including only two in existence with a printing error where the spine is printed upside-down.
A free browser-based version was released just under 10 years later. This version featured a different voice actor for Chomperman, and functioned as sort of an "arcade mode", where players were given snippets of a storyline through cutscenes. It also had a proper ending instead of looping when players completed all of the stages.
In 2016, OUYA received a completely redrawn version of the game, and included an exclusive level featuring a bonus item that had been unutilized in the original release.
A year later, versions for Mac and PC were digitally released on itch.io, under the "10 Cent Classics" banner for $0.10 US. The PC version was essentially the same as the original release, but the Mac version's engine was rebuilt from the ground up and featured a different color palette.
Ports for Android, NES, and Atari 2600 have been in and out of development over time. An Xbox 360 Live Arcade version was canceled due to the end of Xbox Live Indie Games.
