    Overview

Sony's fifth video game console, the PlayStation 5, launched on November 12, 2020 in the United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand. The PS5 launched in other countries a week later on November 19th. At launch, it was available in two different models as one of the models is digital only as it has no disc drive.

    Development

On April 16, 2019, Mark Cerny (Lead System Architect) officially announced that a fifth generation PlayStation console has been in development since 2015.

The PlayStation 5 is said to be focusing on things like faster load times, hardware-based ray tracing, and backwards compatibility. The system will come with a solid-state drive designed to speed up, if not eliminate load times entirely. The controller will focus on haptic feedback over simple rumbles, while also featuring adaptive triggers that allow for programmable resistance.
