Overview
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope is a cinematic horror adventure game developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 30, 2020.
The second in the Dark Pictures series (after Man of Medan), Little Hope follows a group of present-day college students (Andrew, Taylor, Daniel, and Angela) and their professor (John) after a bus crash leaves them stranded in the New England ghost town of Little Hope. After a prologue involving a tragic house fire in the town that kills a family in the 1970s, the story chronicles the group's attempt to escape the town while trying to survive against twisted monsters and investigating memories of a Colonial America-era witch hunt (with some of the settlers resembling the group).
Like its predecessor, it focuses on timed dialogue choices, quick time events, and third-person exploration, and the game has multiplayer (both online and offline), multiple dialogue options per playthrough (based on the character's personality traits and relationship with others), multiple endings, and no losing condition (as the story proceeds to the end, even after an untimely death of one or more protagonists). Much of the gameplay has been revamped after criticism of the first, including alerts of upcoming QTEs and the removal of tank controls.
The game was later followed up with The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes.
